The Gilis
Almost as popular as Lombok itself are three outlying islets located off Lombok's north-west coast. The three small islands named respectively Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno have started to be a magnet of sea-sun-sand seekers.
So popular The Gilis are, many visitors go straight there without even bothering themselves to visit Lombok. Frequent direct fast-boat services are available from two Bali's major ports to Nusa Lembongan, the largest of the trio.
One of the most unique attractions of The Gilis is diving with manta rays around Gili Air.
Mount Rinjani
Soaring 3,726 meters high, Mt. Rinjani is the second highest mountain in Indonesia. On top there is a huge crater lake with a small active volcano in the middle. Its attraction includes rivers, waterfalls, and two craters.
Depends on how long you are prepared to spend your time, it has numerous attraction to explore. Adequate joy requires at least three days that include camping on the riverside or along the lip of the craters.

The Pearls
With cultivation technique develop for decades Lombok is among the largest pearl producers in the world. Large operations are run by multi-national companies for export market whilst many locals also do it traditionally and made their yields available in local souvenir shops.
It is a bred product, not taken from the nature, and therefore makes no negative impact to environment. Various shape and colors are available. More than just white you can also find black, peach, bluish, and pink.
Located next to Bali, Lombok is separated from Bali by quite a narrow strait. It takes 30 minutes flight with propeller aircraft or a mere 15 minutes on jet aircraft. Trip by sea takes about 1.5 hours on fast boat or 4-5 hours by public ferry. However as it grows into a self-contained international holiday destination, there are also direct flights to regional hub like Singapore.
Blessed with the same natural attraction as Bali, Lombok offers almost everything Bali has to over, including beautiful beaches, soaring volcano, and amazing cultural heritage. However, being by far less popular than Bali for decades, Lombok was suffering for slower development pace. But to holiday makers the situation can make it even attractive as in addition to all Bali has to offer, it offers its attractions in a more peaceful way.
But things have started to change now. Its beautiful beaches, outlying islands, and all of its other attractions are just to appealing for tourists to neglect and Lombok welcomes a steadily increasing number of visitors. This year it has its new international airport, marking its leapfrog into an international holiday destination on its own, releasing itself from decades of dependencies from Bali.
